Sensei Felipe Ortiz started his karate training in 1992 at the City Oakland Park and Recreation Center at that time under the direction of Sensei Larry Gill and Sensei Allen Nunley. He has earned his 1st and 2nd Degree from the Wado Ki Kai system of Karate-Do (the latest on 1997). His current training and teaching locations in Oakland are: Franklin Recreation Center and Manzanita Recreation Center. Planning in relocating his Manzanita Recreation students to the Lincoln Square Recreation Center (sometime in October/November 2008). Sensei Felipe Ortiz moved on to train with Shihan Jim Larkin’s Bukido System from 2000 to August 2008, where he was ranked 3rd Degree Black Belt by Shihan Jim Larkin. Felipe has also trained Kajikempo with his friend Martin Gomez; also trained with Master Reginald Burford in Dos Pares Escrima system; Jujitsu with Sensei Bill Anderson, a student of Professor Tim Delgman from the San Francisco Zen Budokai; and has trained karate with Sensei Carlos A. Martinez, Anthony Corpuz, Allen Nunley and others in the Wado Ki Kai system.
